My record has a picture on it and it sounds bad. Why?

Someone just asked us via our vinyl Twitter account (@bullmoosevinyl) why one of his records sounded so bad. It turns out he has a picture disc.

What’s a picture disc? It’s a record with an actual picture printed on paper sandwiched between two pieces of clear vinyl. Don’t confuse picture discs with colored vinyl. Colored vinyl can be all swirly and cool looking, but it doesn’t have a picture inside.

Because of the way that picture discs are made, it’s impossible to make them sound as good as normal black records. That’s not really the point, so don’t worry about it.

Colored vinyl can sound as good as black vinyl, by the way.
